Online Workshop: Nature Telling Stories

13 febrero, 2024

This coming April, we will launch the online version of the Nature Telling Stories workshop in English, an original proposal by Wimblu focused on creative documentary and spiritual ecology. The objective of the workshop is to provide spaces, exercises and tools that explore the language of nonfiction to tell stories at the intersections of ecology and spirituality.

The workshop will take place during six sessions of two hours each (from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 m.d. PST | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST), on April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1st and 8, 2024. The space is aimed at all those who wish to explore creative nonfiction in whatever their medium (writing, photography, film, multimedia, etc.), delve into themes of ecology and spirituality, and explore ways to connect with their inner and outer landscapes.

The workshop will combine theory and practice: each session will include lectures, as well as in-class practices, references reviews and group discussions. Materials (readings, documentaries, etc.) will be assigned and provided between sessions, and additional practices and resources will be suggested for students to explore on their own time. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to initiate a project during the workshop, or use the course to develop an ongoing project, and there will be the option to have a feedback session.

The proposal responds to our organization's purpose to create and share stories that restore our sense of connection and belonging to the Earth. We have become used to telling and consuming stories about nature, placing ourselves outside and above that story. In this workshop we seek to tell stories with nature, recognizing ourselves as participants in the trajectories and subjectivities of other beings, exploring through that relationship our own experience of the world.

In Wimblu we have more than 12 years of experience in the field of documentary and research, and we have more than five years of focusing our own practice on themes of ecology and spirituality. Through our magazine we have had the opportunity to collaborate closely with more than 50 authors around the world whose work also explores these intersections. In this workshop we synthesize what we have learned over the years to explore creative documentary as a process in which our inner and outer landscapes connect.

Space for the workshop is limited, so there will be a selection process. Click here to apply before March 20th. We have either one full scholarship or two partial scholarships available, which can be applied for in the same form.
